Meet our professionals
Director
With many years’ experience in advising individuals and businesses in maximising business profits with a minimum exposure to taxation, I have a small base of long term clients who appreciate the results. The fun part is planning the types of structures that are legitimately available to business owners and working with them and seeing them enjoy the results.
At Code One, we take pride in providing a personalised experience that leads to profit improvement. We aim to take the confusion and stress out of your finances while providing exceptional business advice. We realise no two people are the same, with their own unique needs and challenges, so we tailor our advice accordingly and will work with you for the very best results.
Code One Accountants Perth responds to the ever-changing environment of financial and business services. Not content with simply filing your taxes, we offer a complete package to meet all of your financial and business needs. By doing so, we aim to substantially minimise your workload while helping maximise your profit.
Director – Business Advisory & Tax
Laurie is a Chartered Accountant of 25 years standing. He holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Western Australia and recently completed a Diploma of Financial Planning. He is a Registered Tax Agent.
Why you do the work to which you have dedicated yourself?
For Laurie, an interesting life is about relationships and challenges. In this new world of technology and digital disruption, businesses risk becoming redundant overnight if they miss the quantum shifts that are occurring. These shifts also present massive opportunities for agile businesses to stride ahead of their competition. Laurie’s passion is to work strategically with his clients to avoid the “Kodak Road” and ensure they are the predator, not the prey.
Personal Interests
Laurie is a competitive and successful offshore and regatta sailor out of Fremantle Sailing Club. He also enjoys socialising with friends and family, music and learning about new things.
Work Life
A farmer’s son from Doodlakine in the WA Wheatbelt, Laurie learnt the tax game working for the Australian Taxation Office in Perth. He was recruited by Ernst & Whinney (now EY) in 1986, where he expanded his tax and business consulting skills and qualified as a Chartered Accountant. After eight years at the big end of town, Laurie purchased a small practice in Kalamunda, which he developed into a well-regarded business helping SME owners by providing proactive tax, accounting and business advisory services.
In 2006, Laurie sold his accounting practice in a management buy-out to pursue his external business interests. After managing businesses and working as a financial controller in the agricultural, marine and automotive industries, Laurie brought his enhanced commercial skills back to public practice, joining Code One in 2014. He has been something of an agent of change in the practice, leading the transition to cloud-based technologies and helping to add the extra services that improve our clients’ businesses.
Laurie is happily married to Madeleine and has three adult children. He is passionate about working with clients to make their lives better, by making their businesses more efficient, manageable and profitable. He loves innovative technologies – and sailing.
